House in Order
Posted
On: Mar 01, 2010 (13:37:53)
The recent events involving APA members falling ill and line of duty deaths, one of our own members has created a list of "talking points" for each member to discuss with their spouse, boyfriend, girlfriend, significant other and/or family. She experienced a premature death of her husband and found lots of "things" she'd wished they spoke about. The list is contained within the "Member Home" tab.

Texas Rangers Part Time Employment
Posted
On: Feb 16, 2010 (16:59:50)
Two weeks ago, the Homeland Security Special Events (HSSE) unit held a meeting with several officers and supervisors that work Texas Rangers games. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss possible changes to the Rangers off-duty employment. The biggest change proposed was to eliminate the Rangers seniority list. A smaller change was to manage all Rangers games via the internet-based scheduling system used for the Cowboys events.
Understandably, this caused some turmoil amongst everyone involved, including the HSSE unit. YOUR APA received dozens of emails and phone calls requesting help and to try to change this proposal. We understand your concerns...we heard all of them from loss of money, 20 years of longevity, possible solutions, etc.
FIRST THINGS FIRST....RUMOR CONTROL...
YOUR APA learned some things during this process. We learned that the reason the change in scheduling last year was made from the Rangers to the HSSE unit was at the request of the Rangers. The Rangers felt that paying a coordinator was not fair since the HSSE unit was coordinating the Cowboys already. So, after several requests, the HSSE unit took over Rangers scheduling. The HSSE unit is not in the business of taking over all part time job scheduling.
SO NOW WHAT?
YOUR APA set a meeting with several stakeholders involved in this process, and today was able to meet with Chief Bowman regarding the changes. The meeting went very well. YOUR APA is going to examine some possible solutions to this issue and propose them to the HSSE unit. In short, we will continue to work towards a common goal.
WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO NOW?
We ask your continued patience in this matter. We understand your frustration and desire to have this solved right away. We have a great opportunity to try to fix this for all involved. We cannot stress enough that you limit your criticisms to the HSSE unit. Remember, their job is tougher than it looks, and not many people are lining up to do it. Therefore, we must be considerate to all involved.
That said, stay tuned....more information to follow.
If you have any questions direct them to info@apatx.com.
